curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash

If you encounter any problems at any time, visit the official Pi-Hole website and consider reading the documentation ping the community forum for more details. There are other methods that can be used to install Pi-Hole in your desired system and the details to that can be found here.

Configuring it.

Next step is to configure your client devices (any device connected to the network) to use the Pi-Hole as the DNS server. DNS stands for domain name server, it translates the domain names (such as google.com) to it’s equivalent IP address (such as 172.217.xxx.xxx), you can always ping to the domain name from your terminal / command prompt / Powershell.

For example run the code below in terminal / CMD / Powershell to find Google’s public IP Address.

ping google.com

Now, that you know what DNS is, you can configure it. You can change the DNS in your router’s DHCP settings. Or you can change the DNS in your device’s network settings.

To change the DNS in your Windows PC, go to start and type in Network Status, then click on Change adapter options.

A new window will open, right click your network adapter and click on Properties. In the Networking tab, double click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). Then select Use the following DNS server addresses and type in the IP address of the device in which the Pi-Hole is installed.

For more information on how to ues Pi-Hole as DNS server, visit the Documentation here.

And thats it. Most of the ads on your brouser are now sucessfully blocked now.
